Generic name: Pentosan Polysulfate
Strengths: 100 mg
This prescription medicine is used to treat pain and discomfort caused by interstitial cystitis, a bladder condition.
It may function by creating a protective coating on the bladder wall, shielding it from harmful or irritating chemicals in the urine. It’s also a weak blood thinner, which means it raises the risk of bruising and bleeding, such as from the nose or gums.
This medication suggested daily dose is 300 mg, which is taken three times a day as one Elmiron 100 mg capsule. Take 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals with water.
This is simply a commonly recommended dose. Be sure to follow your doctor’s dosage and guidelines when using this medication.
