Product Description

Find answers to common questions about our product, including dosage, storage, and side effects.

  • Benzocaine is utilized for short-term relief of pain caused by minor mouth issues, including toothache, canker sores, sore gums/throat, and mouth/gum injuries.
  • It functions as a local anesthetic by numbing the painful area.
  • It is crucial not to administer this product to children younger than 2 years due to the risk of serious side effects.
  • Consult your doctor for further information regarding the use of benzocaine in children.

  • Follow all instructions provided on the product package. If your doctor has prescribed this medication, adhere to their directions. For any inquiries, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not use this medication more than four times a day unless instructed otherwise by your doctor. Allow the medication to remain on the painful area for at least one minute before spitting out or rinsing the mouth.
  • Avoid using excessive amounts of this drug or using it more frequently than directed, as it increases the risk of serious side effects, including the rarely fatal condition methemoglobinemia.
  • Prevent the medication from coming into contact with the eyes.
  • Discontinue using this medication and inform your doctor if your sore throat is severe or persists for more than 2 days, if your sore mouth symptoms persist for more than 7 days, or if you experience fever, headache, rash, swelling, nausea, or vomiting. These symptoms may indicate a serious medical issue requiring different treatment. If your condition worsens or if you suspect a serious medical problem, seek medical assistance immediately.

  • Slight burning, tingling, or stinging sensations may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
  • If your doctor has prescribed this medication, it’s important to remember that they have assessed that the benefit to you outweighs the risk of side effects. Many individuals using this medication do not experience serious side effects.
  • Rarely, this medication may lead to a severe (potentially fatal) blood disorder known as methemoglobinemia. This risk is higher if you have breathing problems, certain blood diseases, or if you smoke. Symptoms may manifest within minutes to a couple of hours after using the medication. Cease using the medication and seek immediate medical assistance if you exhibit any symptoms of methemoglobinemia, such as pale/bluish/gray skin, unusual fatigue, shortness of breath, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, headache, or confusion.
  • Although very uncommon, a serious allergic reaction to this drug may occur. Seek medical help immediately if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.
  • This list does not encompass all potential side effects. If you observe any other effects not mentioned above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

  • Before using benzocaine, disclose to your doctor or pharmacist if you have an allergy to it, to other “caine” anesthetics (such as procaine), or if you have any other allergies. Inactive ingredients in the product may also cause allergic reactions or other issues, so it’s important to discuss these with your pharmacist for more details.
  • If you have certain health conditions, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this product. These conditions include heart disease, specific blood disorders (G6PD deficiency, pyruvate kinase deficiency, hemoglobin-M disease, NADH-methemoglobin reductase deficiency), and breathing problems like asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, or a history of smoking.
  • Before undergoing surgery, inform your doctor or dentist about all the products you are using, including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products.
  • During pregnancy, use this product only when clearly needed and after discussing the risks and benefits with your doctor.
  • It is uncertain if this product passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
