Dosage and administration

Do not use this medication more than four times a day unless instructed otherwise by your doctor. Allow the medication to remain on the painful area for at least one minute before spitting out or rinsing the mouth.

Side effects
Slight burning, tingling, or stinging sensations may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Rarely, this medication may lead to a severe (potentially fatal) blood disorder known as methemoglobinemia. This risk is higher if you have breathing problems, certain blood diseases, or if you smoke. Symptoms may manifest within minutes to a couple of hours after using the medication. Cease using the medication and seek immediate medical assistance if you exhibit any symptoms of methemoglobinemia, such as pale/bluish/gray skin, unusual fatigue, shortness of breath, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, headache, or confusion.
Although very uncommon, a serious allergic reaction to this drug may occur. Seek medical help immediately if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.
