- Used in men to treat symptoms of enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia-BPH).
- Works by reducing the size of the enlarged prostate.
- Relieves BPH symptoms such as difficulty initiating urine flow, weak stream, frequent or urgent urination (including nighttime).
- May reduce the need for surgery to treat BPH.
- Not approved for preventing prostate cancer.
- Slightly increases the risk of a very serious form of prostate cancer; discuss benefits and risks with the doctor.
- Not for use by women or children.
- Read the Patient Information Leaflet before starting the medication and with each refill; ask doctor or pharmacist if questions arise.
- Take the medication by mouth with or without food, as directed by the doctor, usually once daily.
- Swallow the capsules whole; do not crush or chew them.
- Use regularly for maximum benefit; take at the same time each day to aid in remembering.
- Possible side effects may include sexual problems (such as decreased sexual interest/ability, decrease in the amount of semen/sperm), testicle pain/swelling, increased breast size, or breast tenderness.
- Sexual problems may persist in some men even after stopping treatment.
- Inform the doctor or pharmacist promptly if any of these effects last or worsen.
- Medication prescribed considering the greater benefit compared to the risk of side effects.
- Many users do not experience serious side effects.
- Very serious allergic reactions are rare; seek immediate medical help for symptoms like rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
