Product Description

Find answers to common questions about our product, including dosage, storage, and side effects.

  • Lamivudine-HBV is prescribed for treating hepatitis B infection. However, it is important to note that it is not a cure for hepatitis B and does not prevent the transmission of hepatitis B to others.
  • This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs).
  • Lamivudine-HBV functions by slowing down the growth of the virus, thereby reducing liver damage caused by the hepatitis B virus.

  • Before starting lamivudine-HBV, if available, carefully read the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist and review it each time you refill your prescription. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Take lamivudine-HBV orally, with or without food, as directed by your doctor, typically once daily. The dosage is determined by your medical condition and response to treatment.
  • To derive the maximum benefit from this medication, use it regularly. Lamivudine-HBV is most effective when the drug level in your body is maintained at a constant level. Remember to take it at the same time each day and do not skip any doses.
  • Do not discontinue this medication without consulting your doctor. Stopping treatment abruptly may lead to worsening of your condition, reduced response to medication, or the emergence of drug-resistant strains of the virus during or after treatment. Promptly inform your doctor of any new symptoms that arise during or after treatment.

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, tiredness, or infections of the ear/nose/throat may occur while using lamivudine-HBV. If any of these effects persist or worsen, promptly inform your doctor or pharmacist.
  • It’s important to remember that this medication has been prescribed because your doctor has determined that the benefit outweighs the risk of side effects. Many individuals using this medication do not experience serious side effects.
  • Rarely, lamivudine-HBV may lead to severe (sometimes fatal) liver problems and a buildup of lactic acid in the blood (lactic acidosis). These serious side effects may occur more frequently in women and obese patients. Seek medical help immediately if you experience any very serious side effects, including symptoms of liver problems (such as persistent nausea/vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach/abdominal pain, yellowing of eyes/skin, dark urine) or symptoms of lactic acidosis (such as deep/rapid breathing, drowsiness, nausea/vomiting).
  • Notify your doctor immediately if you encounter any serious side effects, such as mental/mood changes, muscle/joint pain, or tingling/numbness in hands or feet.
  • Although rare, a very severe allergic reaction to this drug may occur. Seek immediate medical assistance if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.
  • Note that this list does not encompass all possible side effects. If you observe any other effects not mentioned above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

  • Prior to taking lamivudine-HBV, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients that could trigger allergic reactions or other problems. Seek additional details from your pharmacist.
  • Before using lamivudine-HBV, disclose your medical history to your doctor or pharmacist, particularly if you have a history of pancreatitis, HIV infection, kidney disease, blood disorders, or liver disease.
  • This drug may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Alcohol or marijuana (cannabis) can exacerbate these effects. Refrain from driving, operating machinery, or engaging in activities requiring alertness until you can do so safely. Avoid alcoholic beverages. Consult your doctor if you are using marijuana (cannabis).
  • Liquid formulations of lamivudine-HBV contain sugar (sucrose). Diabetic individuals using the liquid form of this drug should undergo closer monitoring of blood sugar levels upon starting this medication. Discuss this with your doctor or pharmacist for further information.
  • Before undergoing surgery, inform your doctor or dentist about all products you use, including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products.
  • Children may be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug, particularly the increased risk of pancreatitis.
  • During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This medication has not been proven to prevent the transmission of hepatitis B from the mother to the newborn. Consult your doctor for further information.
  • This medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
