Production Description

Janumet and Janumet XR are two medicines that include Sitagliptin and Metformin and are used to treat high blood sugar in people who have Type 2 Diabetes. Sitagliptin raises incretin levels, which raises insulin levels in the body, particularly after meals. Metformin is used to improve the body’s insulin sensitivity and to reduce the amount of sugar produced by the liver and/or absorbed by the stomach and intestines. This drug is used to prevent blindness, limb loss, nerve and sexual function issues, and kidney damage. It also lowers your chances of having a stroke or having a heart attack.

When using this medication, be sure to drink enough of water. The medicine must not be divided, broken, or crushed. Similar medicines that may be sliced or divided are available in immediate-release forms. Your doctor may begin by giving you a lower dose and gradually raise it to decrease the chance of adverse effects.

Follow the recommendations on the prescription label and monitor your blood sugar levels on a regular basis. If you’re taking comparable drugs already, your doctor will tell you how to stop using them.

Using Janumet

You should consult your doctor if you had a history of any of the following:

  • Allergies to medications
  • Severe breathing problems
  • Blood problems
  • Kidney/liver disease
  • Pancreatitis
  • Gallstones

Before having surgery, iodine contrast scanning, or an x-ray, speak with your doctor or dentist. Before your operation, you could be told to stop taking Janumet.

It’s possible that Janumet will make your eyesight blurry. Do not operate equipment or any vehicle, or engage in any other activity that necessitates alertness and clear eyesight until you are sure you can do so safely. Alcohol consumption should be kept to a minimum since it increases the risk of lactic acidosis and low blood sugar.

To avoid dehydration, drink a lot of liquids. Fever, heavy sweating, water pills, diarrhea, and vomiting can all contribute to dehydration. Stop taking Janumet and see your doctor as soon as possible if the diarrhea or vomiting does not go away.

When you’re dealing with a fever, an accident, an illness, or surgery, stress might make controlling your blood sugar levels more difficult.

Side effects such as low blood sugar and lactic acidosis are more likely to occur in older individuals.

If you’re pregnant, avoid using Janumet. For the length of your pregnancy, your doctor may prescribe using insulin instead. Metformin, a prescription drug, has the potential to disrupt menstrual cycles as well as nursing. It promotes ovulation and passes via breastmilk in tiny levels, which might alter the menstrual cycle. Sitagliptin is not known to pass into breast milk. If you’re using Janumet, talk to your doctor about effective birth control options and whether or not you should breastfeed.
